North Carolina's Initiative for Inclusive Philanthropy

NCGives is a statewide organization dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the giving of time, talent and treasure in North Carolina — particularly among women, young people and communities of color. Our work is accomplished by developing and sharing giving-related stories, research and tools.

We are working to change the misconception that philanthropy (which literally means "the love of humankind") is strictly a function of the wealthy. North Carolinians across the board are generous in their giving, and this is especially true of women, young people and people of color. We believe that when these groups have a stronger and more sustained voice, and experience greater recognition and inclusion by mainstream philanthropy, philanthropy (or giving) will become transformed...

...and when philanthropy is transformed, our communities, our state, will be transformed as well.

Connecting Givers For Good

We believe that by connecting people and groups within and across cultures of giving in North Carolina, we will inspire and learn from one another, creating positive community change. While NCGives is not a conventional funding source,* we support North Carolina givers through

• Education (giving-related teaching materials, events and facilitated discussions)
• Relationship building (local connections, diverse partnerships and statewide networks)
• Advocacy (sharing inspiring stories and enlightening research; collaborating with mainstream philanthropy on inclusive giving)
• A Knowledge Base (the NCGives website, technical assistance and other informational resources)

*NCGives does not accept unsolicited grant proposals.
