About the Project

Back in 2008, NCGives had an idea. We took this idea to North Carolina's own Minnow Media, an Emmy award-winning production company based in Carrboro. After 18 months of traveling the state and piecing together inspiring stories of giving, we found ourselves with a beautifully powerful film that speaks to the many ways North Carolinians give of themselves.

The entire project is actually made up of seven different documentaries:

  • An hour-long film takes you on a journey across North Carolina to 13 different communities, uncovering powerful stories of giving from people just like you. (Introduced by Bill Friday; Narrated by Ambassador James Joseph)
  • Six shorter documentaries take a look at giving from specific North Carolina groups: Women, Young People, African American, Latino/Hispanic, Asian American/Pacific Islander and American Indian (Narrated by Nnenna Freelon)
