200 high school youth gather to grant $60,000+ to NC communities

GREENSBORO, NC – On Saturday, October 17, 2009 more than 200 high school-aged youth from across North Carolina will come together at the Greensboro Downtown Marriott for the Fourth Annual North Carolina Youth Giving Summit. Entitled “The Magic Of Giving”, the Summit is designed to prepare how and where these high school students will grant over $60,000 to help their communities. The funds have been donated from philanthropic organizations across the state and will be entrusted to these youth for allocation.

NCGives Launches New Initiative
As part of NCGives' work to celebrate, connect, inspire and grow giving in North Carolina, NCGives has been laying the groundwork for an Asian American-Pacific Islander philanthropy initiative during the past year. This May (coincidentally, Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month), NCGives was pleased to see this initiative truly take off with the hiring of student consultant Hai-Tan Le.

Summer Institute for Research on Race and Wealth, July 2009
The Howard University Center on Race and Wealth invites applications for its 2009 Summer Institute. The Summer Institute is a four week program for students (undergraduate or graduate) who have completed a paper, such as a senior thesis, honors paper, graduate course paper or a master's thesis, on a topic related to asset building, wealth accumulation and/or wealth and racial economic inequality, particularly in communities of color and low-income populations.
