Examining African American family foundations

The Aspen Institute recently released A Growing Tradition?: Examining the African American Family Foundation, published by the Institute’s Philanthropy and Social Innovation program. The report presents research on African American family foundations in the U.S. and their growth in recent decades.

Founders reported three main motivations: the desire to give back, the longing to have a significant impact on the world, and the wish to help disadvantaged children.
