From home cleaning to grantmaking, NC women are paving paths of generosity

The past few weeks have seen a lot of admirable action among North Carolina's women givers --

BELMONT - Local businesswoman Cheryl Shepherd, owner of Maids of Honor Cleaning Service, is bringing her time and talent to bear with her new program, "Cleaning For Cancer." The program provides one free three-hour house cleaning to locals undergoing cancer treatment. "All I want to do is try and make a difference in somebody's battle against cancer," says Ms. Shepherd. "Cleaning For Cancer is a great way for us to help someone...You don't seem to have as much time or strength to clean your home when you are fighting for your life. I am thrilled to help make people's lives a little more normal while they're fighting the fight."

FAYETTEVILLE - The Women's Giving Circle of Fayetteville recently announced its third annual round of grant awards, totaling $49,340. Three Cumberland County nonprofits were selected to receive the grants for programs supporting homeless women and children: Fayetteville Area Operation Inasmuch, Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network, and Grace & Mercy House, Inc.   Read the full story

CHARLOTTE - The 425 women who make up the Women's Impact Fund have had a successful first year as an independent nonprofit, with a grantmaking total of $420,000 awarded to five local nonprofits. This year's collectiving giving efforts benefited The Actor's Theatre, Elon Homes and Schools, Yadkin Riverkeepers, Mecklenburg County Health Department/the Black Women's Health Network, and The Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing Program.   Read the full story
