Nonprofit Awareness Month + Your Giving News
November 10, 2010
Did you know it's Nonprofit Awareness Month here in North Carolina? Nonprofit organizations play a big role in our culture of giving -- we as givers can support their work with our time, talent and treasure, so they in turn can give back to our communities through services that make our world a better place to live.
(Want to be a part of the Nonprofit Awareness Month celebration + spread the word about these very important organizations? The NC Center for Nonprofits has ideas to help you!)
Here are some opportunities and recent announcements for North Carolina's nonprofit world:
National Philanthropy Award Winners - Triangle
One of the many ways giving happens is through formal fundraising, when nonprofit organizations ask people in the community to support their work through donations of treasure. Today, the Triangle Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is honoring the following contributors to North Carolina's culture of giving:
Excellence In Philanthropy: Peter and Martha Klopfer; Peter and Prudence Meehan
Innovation In Philanthropy: Nancy Murray, Builders of Hope
Outstanding Corporation: GlaxoSmithKline
Outstanding Philanthropic Organization: TROSA, Inc.
Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser: Woody Durham & Mike Haley, Carolina Kids Classic
Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy: Meagan French; Aaron Olive; David Hare
Outstanding Fundraising Executive: Eli Jordfald, CFRE
ZSR Sabbatical Applications
For more than 400,000 people in North Carolina, the spirit of giving back has lead to a career in giving back, as employees of NC nonprofits. Many nonprofit workers pour everything they've got (and more!) into their role, and that's why the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation offers their annual Sabbatical Program.
Each year, this program enables five nonprofit leaders to take 3-6 months off from work to "to focus primarily on their personal needs and devote themselves to self-revitalization." Deadline to apply is December 1 -- get details here.
Philanthropy Journal Webinar: Board Communication
For nonprofits to be the best stewards of all the giving that comes their way, a good board of directors is a must-have...which includes good communication! PJ is offering an e-classroom to help get your board meetings in shape:
When bad communication happens to good boards: Getting your meeting back on track
Even board meetings that are well-planned and well-attended can become derailed by difficult communication moments. This e-Classroom discussion will examine four common communication challenges and how board members can respond in the moment to minimize harm and keep meetings on track.
When: December 2nd, 1:00 PM -2:00 PM • Cost: $20 PJ members | $30 Non members • Details / Register
