Last Tuesday, NCGives' executive director Donna Chavis spoke at the NC Governor's Conference for Women, as a panelist for "Making a Difference Through Philanthropy."

Sharing the stage with moderator Valeria Lee and fellow panelists Althea Gonzalez, Lisa Renstrom and Laurie Emrich, Donna spoke about growing up in her family with giving as a way of life, a precursor to her later experiences in the philanthropic world.

She also brought the perspective of the collective giving movement (such as giving circles) to the discussion: "It's important to remember it's not about just the 'me' -- it's about the 'we.' We're not isolated...we're all in community."

Not to be outdone, the youth of North Carolina (over 200 of them!) banded together on Saturday for the annual NC Youth Giving Summit. This year's theme was "The Voices of Giving," and students gathered to have fun, get motivated, and learn how to strengthen giving in their communities. Plus, this year the NC Youth Giving Network welcomed some very special guests - the very first middle school giving group, the Pitt County Heroes!
